City South of Grosseto.

Site of German bomb dump near Grosseto. "Gil" Wymond flew back to Alto with a 2X4 timber in his wing after bombing the dump.

Picture taken from 65th FS Op's House, the "Podere Sant' Antonio" Nearly 30 A-20's and A-26's of the 47th BG are visible in background, many painted black. The 47th had 4 bomb squadrons at Grosseto. The 84th, 85th, 86th, and 97th. The 47th BG began doing "Night Intruder" missions, while the 57th FG flew during the day. "Round the Clock Bombing" (weather permitting) of the Germans, pushing them north out of the Apennines, across the Po Valley and thru the Brenner Pass. The 57th FG 65th FS flightline is just to the right of this picture.
