“P-47 main landing wheel tire change jack” P-47 aircraft with rocket system uses
the wing jack point to attach rocket tubes. When a tire failed there was no way to
lift the aircraft short of scrub the flight and remove the rocket tubes. This became
a serious problem when the aircraft blocked the taxi strip. A 2 &1/2 ton hydraulic
jack with a low slung lifting point device enabled mechanics to change tire in a few
short minutes. We have video on this.
P-47 Aircraft engine change system. All tools, supplies, hoist, and work stands were
contained in the 2 & ½ ton truck and ¾ ton trailer. This greatly reduced out of time
for aircraft on base or remote locations. Engines have been changed in less than one
hour from start to run up by the special crew. (Alto, Corsica).
