Another one of our friends.
Amendola crash. Lt. Howard Hickok’s ship. Upon returning from a mission, finds his aircraft too damaged to land, so he bails out a short ways away from the landing strip.
Here Lt. Hickok looks over the wreckage. This emergency got him membership in an organization called the Caterpillar Club, made up of pilots who successfully bailed out and walked back home.

Tony Aritoli, civilian employee of Republic Aircraft Corp., manufacturer of P-47’s, inspects the wreckage. Tony was assigned to the 57th Fighter Group.
