Desert scene.

Ammunition canisters or 50-gallon drums at four corners were all that was needed to delineate an airfield. They held presents for “Jerry”.

Parlor, bedroom, sink and bath. Although there were no frills, the desert was a remarkably healthy place. In locations where we stayed put for a while, camp sanitation was as shown, using ammunition canisters (shown here) or sometimes 50-gallon gasoline drums cut in half. Sometimes urinals were made using two British square 5-gallon gasoline tins with both ends cut out and one placed at an angle partially inside the other. This arrangement was called a “Desert Lilly”.
